body language.

Robyn has released Body Talk Pt2 yesterday.
It leaked at the beginning of August, and it's brought so much audible pleasure to my ears.
Not only that, it's climbing the iTunes charts (number 5 as we speak)
and, she's coming back to the U.S. this fall for a solo tour.
Unfortunately I won't be in NYC to see her.
I strongly recommend this album.
Eargasm for days!

Dancing On my Own.

… Conspiracies to engage your
mood and then indencent acts and events. Imma wind it grind it, imma have to say it again.
This week marked my last one in New York (post to come)
A while back, I saw Robyn was bringing her All Hearts tour to the city.
I bought my ticket, and was going by myself until I found out Jessie and VJ were going.
The tour consisted of Robyn co-headlining with Kelis
ft. opening acts Far East Movement and Dan Black.
I have to say, and I've seen many a shows, but Robyn KILLED it.
The energy in the room was so off the wall, you were dancing without even knowing.
Jessie and I grabbed a quick bite pre-show and missed Far East movement
(the concert began at 6)
But walked in right before Dan Black's set.

He had an odd stage presence, or rather one I wasn't expecting.
It was funky/fun/eclectic.
He tended to do a lot of hip thrusting too, which was unnecessary.

After Dan finished his set, it was time for Kelis to take the stage.
The venue went dark and some house music came on.
Bright lights flashed and out came Kelis in a silver James Brown looking wig,
and a Rainbow Brite looking spandex suit.
Despite the festival of colors, she began with a bang!
As soon as the first heavy bass of "Emancipate" hit-the crowded was bouncing up and down.
Haflway through her set, she announced how her 1-year old had a cold
and gave it to her. With that she said her hair was killing her....
So she took it off...and danced on!
As her set came to an end, it began sounding like one repetitive song,
all I wanted was for Robyn to take the stage.

After some time, and an untimely soundcheck for Robyn,
the lights dimmed and the wild romp began!!!
The crowd went into fandemonium when the pixie sized-Swede came to the stage.
She opened with Fembots, and played smash after smash
in order:
Cry When You Get Older
Cobrastyle
Dancing on My Own
Who's that Girl
as well as others,
and ending w/
Show Me Love &
With Every Heart Beat

(Dancing on My Own)

(Robyn Montage)
The energy was raw, the set was flawless, and Robyn was unstoppable.
From start to finish was on fire, dancing and appeasing the crowd
The entire Webster Hall was ablaze during her set.
Needless to say, when she tours again in support of Body Talk pt. 2...
I will be in attendance, pt. 2 is out Sept 7th, and is already burning up my playlist.

Walk Outside.

Music Video Mayhem has come back. Here are a few hot new music videos for your viewing pleasure.

1) "Te Amo" by Rihanna. The title falsely makes one believe it could be a Spanish track, but alas RiRi only uses the term 'Te Amo' as the source of her bi-lingualism. The song has a great spanish drum beat, and a steamy video to accompany as Rihanna ventures out on a more.....wild, sensual side.

2) "Hello Goodmorning Remix" by Diddy/Dirty Money ft. Rick Ross & Nicki Minaj. While the video begins with more plugs for all things Diddy,--Diddy Beats and Ciroc---the video is cool, and Nicki Minaj, despite her whack facial expressions, kills it on her verse. check it out, fireworks and all.

3) "Commander" by Kelly Rowland. Destiny's Childs other star, Kelly Rowland, is releasing her sophomore album creatively entitled, 'Kelly Rowland,' later this year. the lead single is the club smash "Commander" and the video is hot too as Kelly commands the room to dance.

MUSIC OF THE SUN: 'Let's Take a Walk' by Raphael Saadiq. Taking it old school, beat, moves, and style. Let this be you sunshine anthem. (Thanks Jen Fierman!)

Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner

Continuing on the Robyn kick, here is the Premiere of her lead single off 'Body Talk vol. 1' "Dancing on my Own." I love the video because it's simple, express the song well, and Robyn is kills it!

Speak Your Body

Remember this jam? Circa 1997.

Our favorite Swedish Pop Princess Robyn, is releasing 3 albums this year. Before the gasps, these won't be so much LPs but more on the EP side with each album consisting of about 8 tracks. They are all entitled "Body Talk" vols. 1-3 (Volume Three being called Speak Your Body) . Volume One has already hit the web and as well as each track being prematurely leaked the weeks prior to the WebRip of the album.

Now, volume one boasts a couple standout tracks that I've been spinning on repeat, but the overall album is set little below the standard that her self-titled 'Robyn' was back in 2005. 'Robyn' featured many hits and was an album that could be spun from beginning to end with 'Konichiwa B**ches', 'Cobrastyle' (personal favorite) 'Handle Me' and 'With Every Heartbeat,' in the mix, it's hard to beat that. "Body Talk: Vol. 1" has a couple tracks that are worth listening to, beginning with her lead single, to be released soon, 'Dancing On My Own' which Pitchfork named best new track. This is almost a second track to 'Be Mine' which Robyn is watching her man in the club with his other woman, but she'll continue to dance by herself.

'Fembot' is the first track to leak, and is reminiscent of 'Konichiwa B**ches' where she believes that "Fembots, have feelings too." The track will have you moving for sure. On the other end of the lyrical spectrum is 'Cry When You Get Older' telling a boy and a girl that "love hurts when you do it right, you can cry when you get older," a bit of a sentimental message, yet still holding true to her pop-synth roots where you find yourself bobbing to the beat but heeding the tracks words. Other tracks on the album include: 'Danchall Queen' produced by Diplo with a dark reggae sort of vibe, every power woman's tune: 'Don't [explitive] Tell Me What To Do' stating daily issues, yet not liking being told what to do, and the dark dance track 'None of Dem'....then the slower tracks 'Hang With Me' and Swedish song 'Jag Vet En Dejlig Rosa.'

While the album overall isn't as strong as it could be, it's worth the spin, and perfect for the summer weather. While you're at it, give her album 'Robyn' a listen, as it won't disappoint!!

As for another who doesn't disappoint, Ciara's latest video for "Ride" is a sensual, one-woman dance infused video that is sure to steam up your monitor. Push Play if you're ready for moves you've never seen before:

Let This Be Our Little Secret.

Last night, a few Brits invaded Salt Lake. Indie-Folk band Fanfarlo played at one of my favorite venues (for the mere fact that wherever you stand, you can see perfectly), Urban Lounge. The opening act, April Smith and the Great Picture Show, was an excellent modern throwback to classic blues. With lead woman April belting out, their use of the cello, and brass is a vintage sound with the flare of today. Their album "Songs for a Sinking Ship" was released on 2/23 and has gotten rave reviews thus far. I recommend sampling a few tracks for yourself.

Around 11:30, Fanfarlo entered the stage and got right to work. Their use of the violin, bass, and trumpet add a great energy to their already infectious sound. Their debut album, "Reservoir" was released last fall and they have been featured on Grey's Anatomy and House. Though their music isn't the kind you rage to, their presence on stage is enough to want to move to their more up-beat tracks. After about a 40 minute set, followed by a 3 song encore, Fanfarlo left the stage to a roar of applause. The 6-member band is worth scoping out, and if you have the opportunity to catch them on their tour, pick up a ticket and go. A 12 dollar investment well worth it. Here is one of my favorite tracks, "I'm A Pilot" from their debut album.

For kicks, Passion Pit released a video for their ever so infectious and catchy track "Little Secrets," a single I can't stop spinning! Instant happiness from this song. Apprecier the video below! (Utahns, don't miss them when they come back to Utah in April at In the Venue with personal favorite, Mayer Hawthorne, and The County. Tickets on sale now!)
